From time to time, quilters of Daily Kos and other handcrafters have made group gifts to VA Hospitals. This time, we are going to give to the Salem, VA Hospital in Virginia. And, Gordon20024 (accompanied by some of his friendly elves) will be making the delivery. It’s his local VA — the one where he gets his care and where he volunteers, too — so he knows it well.
This year, rather than coinciding with a Netroots Nation conference, we delivered on March 10, 2016 to the hospital local to me. As it turns out, the timing was good. We were told that March can be a thinner time for gifts of comfort items to the VA so our gifts will be immediately useful.
VA Portland Veterans are the recipient of TLC from the DailyKos Quilt Guild this week. Angela marx, Ann Reed, Sara Reed, Sarah Wilmot, and dick Pierce (Army Veteran) donated 22 quilts, 30 scarves, and 20 teddy bears.
This year, we do not intend to go to Phoenix but instead would like to arrange a similar gift to the Portland, OR VA Hospital on Oct. 1. Here is why... Portland is where Ann and I live and we have space to collect the quilts, hats, scarves, and teddy bears prior to delivery.
